There are times in this modern society full of busyness and rush when, in spite of the crowds that may press in around us, we are gripped with the terrible pain of loneliness.
It seems ludicrous and contradictory to exist in the midst of masses of people and yet feel so alone. But, this is a sad fact of our times. Invisible walls are erected as people struggle through life trying to avoid any additional commitment or responsibility which would tax their already over-taxed schedules and their over-extended emotional and physical resources.
Many times, wrapped in self-pity, we fail to appreciate the One Who draws near and always goes with us. It is through the knowledge of His everlasting presence that we can transform the insecurity of loneliness into the security of aloneness with God.
Pour out your loneliness to this Friend Who is closer than a brother. You will find that Jesus will share Himself with you in a new and deeper relationship. The captivity of loneliness will be overcome, and you will experience a new joy in His fellowship and companionship as your personal Friend.
With our finite minds it is hard to comprehend that there is a Friend Whose love is infinite – Whose love cannot be earned. How then can you measure this love without price?
And here is how to measure it: The greatest love is when a person lays down his life for his friends.
