Sometimes, a very subtle fear can torment a new Christian...the fear that if he surrenders his life completely to the Lord, there won’t be anything “worthwhile” left. He becomes afraid He’ll take away all the “good times” and the “fun.”
Have you ever felt this way? These fears themselves may not keep you awake, but the guilt you build up, holding back from the Lord, can cause you to lose sleep.
Let me put your mind at rest. When you surrender yourself or any part of your old nature to the Lord, His purpose is not to leave you empty and hurting, but to give you even more in return! He does not intend to cheat you out of the “good things” of natural life; He wants to give you much richer things instead.
He wants to exchange your old habits and traits (the ones you’ll find you really don’t want anyway) for His abundant love, joy, and countless other blessings. He longs to fill you, right now: “...everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price...and let your soul delight itself in abundance” No. The beautiful part is that the Lord always makes up for the time you spend ministering to Him. You’ll find that four hours sleep will seem more like eight after such a night.
Don’t be afraid. Don’t hesitate. Let go. Give Him what He asks of you. He will satisfy your every need, and cause your life to be filled with His blessings
