he middle of the night can be a very surprising time. It’s the time when memories of the past can suddenly come from “out of nowhere” to haunt us.
You may be wondering, “Is reminiscing bad? I seem to lie awake many nights mulling over incidents of the past.”
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with reminiscing in itself. But please, don’t let it control you. If it does, it can drain your mental and emotional energy.
Once the enemy gets you hooked on paying too much attention to the past, he can rob you of the vital refreshment the Lord wants to give you in sleep. As a result, you won’t awaken refreshed.
Instead of focusing on the past as you go to sleep tonight, foil the enemy’s plan. Re-focus your mind on the Lord instead. Fill your mind with a scripture or meditations of Him so He can do a deep, revitalizing work and give you peace.
As the prophet Isaiah said: “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You”.
Accept the peace and relief He wants for you from all unsettling memories. Experience the deep rest that will come from fixing your mind totally on Him as you go to sleep.
